Mr. Freeze is an unusual villain for the 1966 series, he never had a regular actor like the other recurring villains, every time he appeared he was played by a different person, each one taking on the part in their own way, the first is seen in these episodes, played by the voice of Shere Khan George Sanders.
The story begins at the Gotham Ice Rink where a dastardly villain has melted the Ice with a flame thrower and escaped in an Ice Cream van, as the police make chase he leans out the back of the van and freezes the roads stopping the officers in their tracks. At Police Headquarters Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara can't fathom how the roads could be frozen in the middle of July, until they realise it could only be Mr. Freeze and make the call to our two heroes. At Stately Wayne Manor the household are being visited by the stars of the Gotham City Eagles, the local baseball team, but make an appropriate excuse before rushing off to police headquarters.
United with the Commissioner and Chief the dynamic duo talk about how they feel sorry for Mr. Freeze being permanently forced to stay in temperatures below fifty degrees and they believe he has been letting them know he's back and is likely planning revenge because Batman is inadvertently responsible for his condition. Robin suggests they search for clues on the Bat Computer and the two head back to the cave.

In Mr. Freeze's hideout we see how he can control the temperature in different areas, with essentially a red filter or a blue filter. His henchmen have hired five people to dress as Batman and five to dress as Freeze as part of his plot to destroy Batman for ever.
Reports come in all over the city of sightings of Batman which the dynamic duo track to a central location, the Diamond Exchange, because street slang for diamonds is ice! Mr. Freeze arrives at the exchange and steals the diamonds. Our heroes arrive on the scene moments after the appearance of the decoy Batmen and Freezes and get into a confusing brawl. In the ensuing chaos Freeze escapes.
Later after thawing out the Batmobile the heroes realise that Mr. Freeze must want to steal the diamond from a visiting Princess and rush to her hotel when an alarm is sounded. Freeze steals the diamond and the heroes follow them out of the window but before they can stop him he freezes them in place.
HAS BATMAN STRUCK OUT?
IS ROBIN COOL, ...FOR GOOD?
CAN NO-ONE SAVE OUR NOBLE PAIR OF HUMAN POPSICLES?
ANSWERS TOMORROW NIGHT! SAME TIME, SAME CHANNEL!
BUT ONE WORD OF WARNING: BY WATCHING, YOU, TOO, CAN LOOSE YOUR COOL!

To save Batman and Robin from the worst freeze effect I've ever seen the hospital must put them in their experimental Super Hypertherm De-Icifier which slowly raises their body temperatures back to normal levels. Mister Freeze learns about the rescue on the news and decides to move onto the next stage of his plan.
At a game of the Gotham City Eagles being watched by Bruce and Dick along with the visiting princess it is announced that Paul Diamante is not pitching, but no-one knows why he isn't there. Realising that Diamante means diamond they figure out that Freeze must be behind it and head off. At headquarters the Commissioner reveals that Diamante's landlady found a note saying they'll hear Freeze's demands and soon get a call from him demanding that Batman comes to a specific meeting place by himself.
At the meeting point Batman turns himself over but is knocked out by Freeze's henchmen, when Batman wakes up in Freeze's lair he's told he'll be killed, but he can't get to freeze due to the difference in temperatures between the hot and cold zones. He's taken to a dining room where he sees Robin, who followed from a tracking device he secretly placed on Batman, but was also captured. They're given a meal of roast beef and spinach followed by baked Alaska and Batman turns down a cordial as he doesn't drink. Freeze begins to shrink the area of heat around the dynamic duo until only one can fit, but suddenly Batman knocks Freeze to the ground revealing that he was wearing his special super B thermal underwear and is therefore immune to the cold (why his face and therefore his lungs aren't effected, who knows?). He uses Freeze's controls to create a small area of cold to stop Freeze and then defeat his henchmen in a fight.
Later at a party they see the princess and Diamante, both safe and sound, Dick is dismayed to learn that Aunt Harriet is serving baked Alaska for desert.

These episodes are okay, but not a match for the earlier episodes of the series. Mr. Freeze isn't one of the better remembered characters in this series and it's easy to see why. George Sanders is good, but his performance feels a little too serious, there's not a lot of campness to it which is a shame, but hey ho even the best shows have weaker episodes now again.
Next week comes the series first villainess, but it's not one I really know anything about.
